Phil Hornby Presents at Product Camp Manchester

9/6/18

The event in Manchester was a great meet-up of Product People from all over the UK, although most were from the North. It was great to see a growing and vibrant community.

The audience was not just Product Managers, there were Product Owners, Product Marketers, UX Designers and many more. It’s great to see how they all work together and are hungry to do so better.

I lead a discussion on when and why companies establish a dedicated Product Management function. There were some great insights in the room, and I brought along the preliminary insights from my own MBA research.

The biggest answer I seem to finding so far is… Scale. Product Management helps businesses scale whilst keeping the focus on delivering customer and business value. This is especially true as founders and senior leaders have less and less customer contact but recognise how critical it is to making the right calls.
